National electricity production reached 17,499 gigawatt hours (GWh) at the end of October 2025, recording an increase of 4% compared to 16,782 GWh for the same period in 2024. These data, including renewable self-production, are published by the National Observatory of Energy and Mines. Production intended for the local market increased by 2%.
STEG dominates production
The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) remains the main player in the sector, covering 94% of national production. Electricity production from renewable energies now represents 6% of the total, with around 400 MW installed on residential photovoltaic roofs and 70 MW on medium and high voltage in the industrial, tertiary and agricultural sectors.
Imports, mainly from Algeria, covered 11% of local market needs. Peak consumption decreased slightly by 1%, from 4888 MW to 4837 MW.
Electricity sales: moderate increase and sectoral variations
Total electricity sales increased by 1% year-on-year. High voltage customers recorded an increase of 18%, while medium voltage customers remained almost stable. Low voltage sales, mainly residential (around 75%), are partially estimated and do not make it possible to precisely assess actual consumption.
Industrialists remain the main consumers, representing 57% of HV & MV demand. Among the growing sectors are the paper and publishing industry (+11%), water pumping and sanitation services (+10%) and extractive industries (+7%). Conversely, agricultural pumping (-5%) and the textile and clothing industry (-3%) recorded declines.
