The Ministry of Health has announced that it will organize, on Saturday, June 21, 2025, free surgical interventions of the cataract for the benefit of vulnerable populations, and this in hospitals spread over all the country’s governorates.
In a statement published on this occasion, the ministry specifies that this initiative is part of the first national day of ocular health. It is organized in partnership with the association “One Day One Dream”, in collaboration with public and private health establishments throughout the national territory.
Cataract is a frequent eye pathology, especially in the elderly. It is characterized by the progressive opacification of the lens, the natural lens of the eye, which leads to a decrease in vision. People with cataracts can feel blurred, increased sensitivity to light or alteration in colors.
If not treated, cataracts can cause severe loss of vision, even blindness. Fortunately, a simple and fast surgical intervention makes it possible to replace the crystalline opacified with an artificial lens, thus restoring the vision significantly. This is one of the most practiced operations in the world, with a very high success rate.
