The investigating judge of office No. 32, attached to the Tunis court of first instance, decided this Thursday, June 5, 2025 to renew the preventive detention of journalist Mourad Zeghidi for an additional four months.

This decision comes within the framework of an investigation linked to suspicions of money laundering.

The information was confirmed by Me Ghazi Mrabet, member of the collective responsible for the defense of Zeghidi, in a declaration to the Tunis Africa Press agency (TAP). The journalist, in detention for almost a year, appeared on May 15 before the investigating judge for the third time as part of this case.

During this hearing, his lawyers had renewed their request for provisional release. However, this request remains pending, no decision having been made to date.

On the sidelines of the hearing of May 15, a rally of support had held in court on the initiative of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT). Several colleagues, associative activists, political leaders and relatives of the journalist had taken part in this movement, calling for its release and demanding respect for fundamental rights, in particular freedom of expression and independence of justice.
