The criminal chamber of the court of first instance of Monastir sentenced, late in the evening of Monday, November 3, a lawyer to four years and six months in prison, for facts related to the formation of a group with the aim of disseminating false information and endangering public safety, reports Mosaique fm.
A trial under close attention
The lawyer, detained since June 2023, appeared under arrest before the criminal chamber. The charges against him concern the creation of an organized group with the aim of disseminating false information likely to harm public safety or national defense, as well as the dissemination of unfounded accusations targeting a public official, with the intention of denigration.
Presence of the President and mobilization of the body of lawyers
The president of the National Order of Lawyers, Me Boubaker Ben Thabet, traveled to Monastir accompanied by members of the regional bar council, in order to ensure the defense of their colleague and to follow the progress of the trial.
According to initial information, the defense could appeal the judgment rendered at first instance, considering that the charges are based on questionable elements and require reassessment.
