The general administration of forests revealed that more than half of the fires occur between noon and 6 p.m., during which temperatures are climbing and where irresponsible behavior become particularly dangerous.

In 2024, she identified 87 fires Between 6 a.m. and noon, 212 Between noon and 6 p.m., 80 Between 6 p.m. and midnight, and 23 Between midnight and 6 a.m. So, 26 % fires occurred between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. against 53 % Between noon and 6 p.m.

The general administration of forests stressed that, despite the recent decrease in the number of fires, the risk remains high due to climate change and imprudent behavior. In 2022, Tunisia recorded 527 fires having destroyed 7,962 hectaresagainst 290 fires in 2023 on 4,362 hectares.

In 2024, only 246 fires have been reported, touching 734 hectares. Between 2011 and 2024, near 70,000 hectares of forests have been damaged by flames.

To limit the damage, the administration calls on citizens to contribute to the protection of this wealth, a real lung of the planet, source of life, refuge for biodiversity and support for local communities.

She recalls that 96 % Fires in Tunisia are of human origin and urges to avoid certain risky behaviors such as the lighting of lights and barbecues, the throw of butts in the forest or on a dry soil, as well as to store the flammable materials far from heat sources and not to use matches or lighters in the great outdoors.
