The National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI) announced, Friday, that the trade balance of fishing products posted a surplus of 73.5 million dinars (MD) at the end of June 2025. A figure in sharp decrease of 61.8% compared to the same period in 2024, where the excess amounted to 192.4 MD.

At the end of June 2025, Tunisian exports of fishing products were established at 13.6 thousand tonnes, for a value of 323.5 MD. This represents a drop of 19.5% in quantity and 18.6% in value compared to the same period of the previous year.

The main species exported are fish (6 thousand tonnes), canned and semi-conservant (3.5 thousand tonnes), crustaceans (3.5 thousand tonnes).

Exports are distributed over 29 destinations, with the main customers: Italy (32%), Spain (15%) and Libya (12%).

At the same time, export prices increased slightly 1.3%, reaching 23.8 d/kg.

According to the ONAGRI, imports of fishing products experienced a clear increase of 22% in value, reaching 250 MD at the end of June 2025. In volume, they increased by 20.2% to reach 36.9 thousand tonnes, with average prices increased by 1.5% to 6.8 d/kg.

The Tunisian fishery sector is going through an imbalance phase marked by a contraction of exports and a significant increase in imports. These developments directly impact the trade balance, despite the maintenance of a positive balance.
