The Minister of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Maritime Fisheries, Ezzeddine Ben Chikh, said this Saturday that the total area treated against the pilgrim locust through Tunisian territory reached 1400 hectares. The operations continue with close monitoring of the movements of swarms and a location of the grouping areas for targeted interventions.
The Minister stressed that the services of the ministry did not wait for the locust to invade Tunisian territory to act. A proactive approach was initiated in coordination with the Algerian authorities to prepare for this threat.
In parallel, Tunisia has collaborated with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which provided the necessary equipment and ensured the training of agents on wrestling techniques, in addition to the provision of adapted insecticides.
This mobilization is part of a national strategy for preventing agricultural risks, aimed at limiting crop damage and protecting the country’s food security.
