On July 10, 2025, during his surprise visit to Ksibet El Médiouni (governorate of Monastir), the President of the Kaïs Saïed Republic was arrested by a citizen concerned with the degradation of the local environment, in particular the spill of wastewater at sea.

According to a video published by the services of the presidency, the citizen expressed his concern in the face of marine pollution affecting the coast and denounced the hindered, according to him, political parties, in particular Ennahdha, projects of rehabilitation and wastewater management. The latter directly accused this movement of having slowed down the implementation of the measures necessary to preserve the marine ecosystem. “We know them all, Ennahdha Mr. the president,” he said.

In response, President Kaïs Saïed recalled his firm commitment to environmental protection and assured that “any offender will be prosecuted in accordance with the law”. He underlined the need for a determined action to put an end to illegal practices that harm the quality of life of citizens and the health of natural environments.

This spontaneous dialogue between a citizen and the Head of State marked a highlight of this unexpected visit, which aimed to assess on the ground the extent of pollution and to consider concrete measures.

The presidency services insisted on the public nature of this passage, stressing that this interaction reflects the popular concerns and the will of the president to respond directly to citizens.
