The national order of the lawyers in Tunisia validated eight candidates for the post of president. The election will take place on September 12 and 13, 2025 at the Cité de la Culture in Tunis, on the sidelines of the Congress of the Profession. Initially announced to new, applicants are ultimately only eight after a candidate’s withdrawal.
The official list of candidates
The Association of Lawyers has published the final list of candidates who will seek the post of Bâtonnier for the mandate 2025-2028:
- Me Najla Triki
- Me Abderraouf Ayadi
- Me Hassen Toukabri
- Me Mohamed Hedfi
- Me Nidhal Kraiem
- Me Mohamed Mahjoub
- Me Badreddine Mhiri
- Me Boubaker Bethabet
A framed and rigorous process
The submission of applications took place in early August. A first communication reported nine applicants, but the withdrawal of a candidate (Abdelwahed Chtioui) led to the final list of eight names. In addition, 42 lawyers were candidates to join the Council of the National Order of Lawyers.
The outgoing president, Hatem Mziou, had recalled that “the final list of applications will be published after verifying the conformity of the files”, which explains the correction made to the initial figure.
The September meeting
The National Congress of Lawyers will be held on September 12 and 13, 2025 at the Cité de la Culture (Tunis). Only lawyers in office for at least a year will have the right to vote, while retired or fees will be able to attend without participating in the ballot.
The Bâtonnier and the Council of the Order will be renewed during this congress. About 9000 lawyers are expected in the polls, with a participation that usually is around 40%.
