The criminal chamber specializing in terrorism affairs at the Tunis court of first instance began, this Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the distant examination of the so-called “conspiracy against state security”, which concerns 21 accused, including the president of the Ennahdha Rached Ghannouchi movement, the former chief of government Youssef Chahed, the former presidential office Nadia Akacha, as well as the leader Ennahdha Habib Ellouze, prosecuted for terrorist offenses.
Were taken to the audience hall dedicated to remote trials at the Mornaguia civil prison: the former chief of the aircraft protection brigade at Tunis-Carthage airport Abdelkrim Laabidi, the leader of Ennahdha Habib Ellouze, the former mayor of Ezzahra Rayan Hamzaoui, the former director general of specialized services Zouari, as well as a retired security framework.
The lawyers of the accused were present at the hearing. Some have presented new representation proxies, while others asked for the postponement in order to consult the documents in the file. However, the House rejected the request for dismissal on July 1 and refused all requests for release.
It should be noted that the investigating judge in charge of the file had previously issued 12 mandates to bring international ones against accused residing abroad. The case concerns a total of 42 people, some of whom are detained, others in freedom or on the run. They are continued for the constitution of an organization or a group linked to terrorist acts, incentive, by any means, to commit murder or acts of violence, infringement of the internal security of the State, attempt to change the state regime by preparatory means, enrollment or formation of people inside or outside the country in order to commit terrorist acts.
