Tunisia – Coffee market: the Ministry of Commerce acts an exceptional plan

The Ministry of Commerce launched, this week, an exceptional plan to strengthen the supply of coffee intended for family consumption. The initiative follows a meeting of regional directors held on July 7, 2025 and aims to stabilize the market while meeting the needs of consumers.

Reinforcement of the offer

Since the start of the week, the Ministry of Commerce and Export Development has implemented a special program to improve coffee offer. This plan provides for a double strategy:

  • Weekly quantities of coffee distributed via conventional circuits, through the digital application of the Tunisia Trade Office.
  • Additional quantities allocated according to regional specificities, under the supervision of regional trade departments. They are intended for local roasting units which undertake to strengthen the offer.

In parallel, additional volumes are directly oriented towards large areas, in order to strengthen the availability of the product in the organized sales circuits.

The Ministry of Commerce reassures

The ministry calls for small roasting units interested in this program to submit their requests to the regional departments and the centers of the competent trade office. He reaffirms that this system is part of a global effort to ensure the regularity of the supply in all regions.

The coffee market regularly experiences tensions in Tunisia, linked to supply and demand imbalances, aggravated by logistical or financial constraints. Coffee, product of daily consumption, is one of the most sensitive foodstuffs in household perception, which pushes the authorities to strengthen their vigilance.

This exceptional program aims to stabilize the coffee market in Tunisia and guarantee regular access to consumers to this basic commodity.
