Tunisia: Civil protection prohibits swimming today

Faced with unfavorable weather conditions, civil protection formally advised against sea swim this Wednesday, due to powerful winds likely to cause dangerous currents and sudden waves.

The authorities call on citizens to be cautious and respect the safety instructions, in particular the signaling flags on the beaches, which indicate the level of risk at sea. The population is also invited to follow the alert bulletins disseminated by the National Meteorology Institute (INM).

The latter provides, in its last forecasts, the pursuit of violent winds throughout the coast and signals a very agitated sea, sometimes dangerous even when the conditions seem calm on the surface.

Civil protection emphasizes the risk for children, calling for them to prohibit any swimming, even in the apparent absence of waves. Currents and unexpected waves generated by these strong winds can disorient swimmers, making the rescue operations more complex.

Summer summer visitors are invited to contact the 198 198 emergency number in the event of a critical situation or an accident reported on the coast.
