The civil protection units have carried out 113 interventions to extinguish fires in different regions of the country in the last 24 hours, out of a total of 534 interventions.
Between 6 a.m. on August 24 and 6 a.m. on August 25, 2025, the agents also carried out 141 rescue and assistance operations on the roads, 266 interventions excluding traffic accidents and 7 interventions on the beaches.
In order to limit dramas on the roads, civil protection recalls the importance of respecting speed limitations, not using the mobile phone while driving, wearing the safety belt and proceeding regular vehicle maintenance.
A high voltage summer
Between June 1 and August 21, 2025, the civil protection teams recorded more than 52,000 interventions across the country, an average of 24 interventions per hour, according to Commander Khalil Mechri, head of the Statistics and Operational Support Service.
The interventions concerned primarily forest and crop fires, road accidents, as well as securing tourism beaches.
Raising fires
The summer season was particularly marked by forest fires: 134 fires ravaged 2,194 hectares, against 106 fires and 314 hectares destroyed in 2024 over the same period. To contain the flames and protect the crops, civil protection has deployed 16 additional seasonal centers in forest areas (Jendouba, Kef, Béja, Siliana, Bizerte), in support of the 125 permanent units. This strategy made it possible to secure nearly 12 million quintals of wheat.
Upward accidents, downward drowning
If road accidents have increased by 19% since the start of summer, drowning decreased by 31%. Thanks to the vigilance of the teams, 322 people could be saved from drowning.
Commander Mechri alerts, however: if the coastal areas concentrate the majority of interventions, the deadliest road accidents arise elsewhere, linked in particular to excessive speed and the use of the mobile phone while driving.
