Béja managed to collect, until Sunday, more than 2.8 million quintals of cereals, or almost 24 % of Tunisian national production, according to declarations by Badr Dhahri, regional delegate for agriculture in Béja. This performance comes as the harvest campaign approaches its term, with an advancement rate exceeding 99 %.

The end of the harvests is scheduled for August 10, once the harvest is completed by around 500 hectares in the mountainous areas of Amdoun and Nefza, as well as a small area in Goubellat.

In a statement to the TAP agency, Badr Dhahri described the 2024/2025 cereal season as “above average” on a regional scale, with excellent yields, particularly in the south of Béja, and average results in certain areas that recorded strong precipitation, such as in Nefza and north of Béja.

He also underlined the success of the harvest campaign, specifying that the storage capacities were sufficient to keep the grains in good conditions, thanks to the effective coordination between the various players in the agricultural sector.

The area devoted to cereal crops in the Béja region this season has reached 214,000 hectares. The campaign also benefited from significant precipitation spread over the entire period of culture, which positively influenced the state of cultures and the level of production, after almost four years of drought.
