Tunisia: Birth of a new political initiative

A new political initiative, called “National Engagement”, was officially launched this Wednesday, October 15, 2025 in Tunis, at the initiative of a group of political activists, academics and partisan leaders.

The event brought together several figures from the political scene, including Mohamed Ennaceur, former president of the Assembly of People’s Representatives, as well as members of the Free Destourian Party (PDL).

Constitutional law professor Amin Mahfoudh, present at the launch, told TAP that this initiative is “the result of in-depth discussions between various national sensitivities, far from the old divisions and usual ideological alignments.”

“National Engagement” is intended to be a space of convergence for political and intellectual forces sharing a common vision of the future of the country, in a context of political fragmentation and institutional crisis.

Mahfoudh insisted on the need to unite around a modernist republican project, affirming that this initiative is not the relaunch of an old party, but an attempt to rebuild an alternative political framework, focused on stability, the rule of law and the national interest.
