The criminal chamber specializing in financial corruption cases of the court of first instance of Tunis sentenced Ahmed Rjiba, former president and CEO of Banque de l’Habitat, to three years in prison with fines, reports Mosaïque FM.
The case concerns suspicions of financial and administrative corruption linked to the granting of a bank loan to a trader specializing in the distribution of oils, in violation of the legal procedures in force.
The same chamber handed down a four-year prison sentence against the merchant, two years in prison for the director of the bank branch involved, and rejected the proceedings against the other people involved.
This decision underlines a fairly palpable firmness of the justice system in the handling of cases of financial and administrative corruption, particularly in the banking sector.
