The investigation into violence that occurred in the resuscitation service of the Kasserine University Hospital is increasing. A suspect was arrested and placed in police custody, bringing five the total number of people arrested in this case.
The arrests continue in Kasserine after the violent assault on the night of Sunday, June 29, 2025 in the resuscitation service of the Baddreddine University Hospital Aloui. This Tuesday, the spokesman for the courts of Kasserine, judge Imed Omri, announced the custody of a fifth suspect, arrested by the units of national security.
Since the start of the investigation, five people have been placed in pre -trial detention in this case which caused a shock wave on a national scale. The facts date back to June 29, when a group of individuals attacked the hospital and paramedical staff of the hospital, before ransacking several medical equipment.
The incident took place after the death of a patient victim of a road accident. According to the Ministry of Health, several of his relatives have forcefully entered the resuscitation room, verbally and physically assaulting medical, paramedical and workers, before ransacking vital equipment and seriously disrupting the functioning of the service.
The attackers have destroyed expensive and essential equipment to the smooth running of resuscitation care. The Ministry of Health has described a temporary interruption of care, resulting in a major risk for patients. The intervention of security forces had finally made it possible to restore order.
According to the Regional Health Directorate, damage is estimated at nearly 500,000 dinars, a considerable sum for a public establishment already under pressure.
This attack sparked unanimous condemnation. Residents of Kasserine, unions in the health sector as well as the Ministry of Health denounced an inadmissible act, stressing the need to strengthen security in public hospital structures.
