The Ahmed Souab lawyer’s collective, owned since April as part of accusations related to terrorism and ordinary law, called on Tuesday to hold a public and face -to -face hearing.
During a press conference, Me Fedi Snene, a member of the Defense Committee, said that the Tunis Court of Appeal Court had confirmed, on July 17, the charges chosen against Souab on the basis of the decree-law 54, the anti-terrorist law, the telecommunications code and the penal code.
The collective said they chose not to seize the Court of Cassation, preferring to wait for a hearing before the criminal chamber, while reiterating its request for a public and face -to -face hearing.
Support of rights defense organizations
The President of the Tunisian League for Human Rights (LTDH), Bassem Trifi, and the member of the Council of the Association of Lawyers, Adel Messaoudi, affirmed their solidarity with Ahmed Souab and the other detainees of opinion, including journalists, lawyers and political actors. Both insisted on the importance of guaranteeing the conditions for a fair trial and reaffirmed their commitment to continue the fight for the release of the persons concerned.
Ahmed Souab, lawyer and political activist, was arrested on April 21, 2025 at the end of a press conference organized before the lawyer’s house in Tunis, after a hearing in the so -called “conspiracy against state security”.
The investigating judge near the anti -terrorist judicial center had then ordered his placement in police custody for “several terrorist accusations”, in connection with a public declaration made on April 19. The prosecution then opened a judicial information for a series of charges that are both terrorists and ordinary law.
