The Ministry of Equipment and Housing has devoted nearly 36 MD to cleaning, maintenance and repair operations of flood protection works throughout the country. A specific 8.2 MD envelope was allocated to the Grand Tunis governorates, in anticipation of the 2025-2026 rainy season.

Cleaning and maintenance work

During the summer of 2025, the ministry’s teams cleaned approximately 2400 km of channels, rivers and wadis, as well as secondary channels. At the same time, nearly 440 protective works were repaired through Tunisia.

The area of the Grand Tunis rainwater collection basins now reaches 52 hectares, according to the ministry.

Field visit

On September 1, the Minister of Equipment and Housing, Salah Zouari, carried out a tour in the governorates of Tunis, Ariana, Manouba and Ben Arous. He inspected several strategic sites, including the rainwater evacuation channel on the national road n ° 9; The pumping station of the regional road n ° 33; the Khaznadar canal; The Sebkhet Séjoumi evacuation basin; The Bassins of Wad Méliane, Oued Sidi Slimane and Borj Turki.

Current and priority projects

The Minister also followed the advancement of the Nour Jaafar canal (phase 3 of the Raoued protection project), the realization rate of which is 32%. He insisted on compliance with deadlines and the need to speed up work to secure the exposed areas.

Salah Zouari called to strengthen coordination between the various stakeholders, to intensify cleaning operations and to pay particular attention to the evacuation networks located on roads and related works.
