The Tunis court of first instance sentenced three sub -Saharan African nationals to 26 years in prison each, accompanied by a fine of more than a million dinars, for their involvement in a vast network of trafficking in human beings and money laundering, reports today FM radio.

This criminal network, active between Tunis and Sfax, facilitated the accommodation and transport of sub -Saharan migrants for their clandestine departure to Europe. The investigation revealed that the accused received postal mandates from abroad from an overall amount exceeding one million dinars, presented as aid to African nationals wishing to settle in Tunisia.

The criminal chamber has retained several charges against them, in particular creation and participation in a criminal organization, the trafficking in human beings, as well as the facilitation of irregular immigration.
