The criminal chamber specializing in terrorism affairs, falling under the Tunis court of first instance, condemned the former President of the Republic, Moncef Marzouki, at 22 years in prison.
The same penalty was imposed on his former counselor to the presidency, Imed Daïmi, as well as to the ex-bâtonnier of lawyers, Abderrazak Kilani. Two other accused, also tried on the run, received the same sanction. All are prosecuted in a terrorist case.
These convictions intervene after the anti -terrorist accusation chamber of the Tunis Court of Appeal ordered their dismissal to the specialized criminal court. The facts that are accused of, although not officially detailed, are part of provisions relating to anti -terrorist legislation.
The five accused are currently outside the national territory. The trial was therefore held in their absence.
