During a parliamentary session, Transport Minister Rachid Amri revealed that 3,000 complaints have been filed against Tunisair since the start of the year, mainly for flight delays. The national company, which currently operates 14 planes, is still suffering losses estimated at 22 million dinars per month.

The on-time departure rate, which was only 42% in the first quarter of 2025, has reached 62% today. The ministry’s objective is to cross the 90% mark by the end of the year.

To improve flight regularity, five additional aircraft will be leased for purchase, and two aircraft from the current fleet will be repaired in the coming months.

A financial balance conditioned on a strengthened fleet

According to Rachid Amri, Tunisair could reach financial balance with 21 operational planes. A global restructuring plan for the company will be presented before the end of the year, and will also concern SNCFT, the Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation and the Société Tunisienne de Manutention et de Freight.

3000 MD for the extension of Tunis-Carthage airport

The minister also mentioned the project to extend the Tunis-Carthage airport, estimated at 3,000 million dinars, with the creation of an aerial metro linking the airport to the capital. This strategic project, whose capacity will reach 18 million passengers per year, will be carried out under a turnkey contract, via a direct negotiation procedure after pre-selection.

At the same time, the construction of a new airport in Bizerte remains under study, the minister said.
