Les jeunes médecins dans la rue pour réclamer leurs droits

Faced with a dialogue blocked with the Ministry of Health, the young Tunisian doctors went down to the street this July 1. A mobilization with a strong symbolic significance, marked by a tribute to Jed Henchiri, and which is part of a national strike movement.

Anger rumbles in the ranks of the young medical generation. In Tunis, several dozen internal and resident doctors gathered Tuesday evening, July 1, 2025, in front of the municipal theater, to express their fed up in the face of a situation which they deem untenable.

At the origin of this mobilization: the feeling of abandonment by the supervisory authorities, illustrated by a series of controversial decisions on their assignments, their working conditions and the absence of a structured dialogue with the Ministry of Health.

Meeting at the call of several representative organizations, the demonstrators have brandished signs and slogans under the watchword: “Ministry of the campaign of false achievements – stop in injustice on our struggles”.

They denounce in particular arbitrary assignments in under-equipped structures, degraded working conditions in regional hospitals, as well as a climate of institutional contempt, aggravated by the lack of concrete responses to their demands.

The rally was also marked by a moment of strong emotion, with the tribute paid to Jed Henchiri, young doctor and former president of the organization of young doctors, who died in 2024 and symbol of the commitment of his peers.

This demonstration intervenes in a context of national strike, started this July 1 by around 7,000 young doctors. This movement, which affects hospitals across the country, is the last stage of a showdown for several months with the ministry.

Despite several meetings, negotiations have not resulted in concrete solutions, in particular on the reform of the assignment system, the valuation of the status of doctors in training and the conditions of exercise in the interior regions.

The organizers said their determination to continue mobilization until tangible responses are provided. They call on all doctors and citizens to join them to defend a fairer health system, more equitable and more respectful of the fundamental rights of caregivers.
