New act of vandalism on public transport in the capital. During the night from Thursday to Friday, metro No. 4 of the Tunis Transport Company (TRANSTU) was attacked with stones inside the Place de la République station. Several windows were broken, according to TRANSTU CEO Abderraouf Saleh.
Attacks that have become almost daily
Speaking on Jawhara FM, Abderraouf Saleh denounced “totally unjustifiable behavior” and warned of the increase in this type of attacks, which according to him have become “almost daily”. These acts, he recalled, damage public equipment and disrupt service, depriving users of essential means of transport.

The official added that a new bus was also targeted, with its front windshield smashed. This vehicle had just been put into service, said TRANSTU, emphasizing the financial and operational cost represented by this damage.
Perpetrators identified and arrested
The police quickly intervened and managed to arrest the alleged attackers, aged between 15 and 20 years old. The investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances of these attacks and possible complicity.

Black Series
In recent years, public transport in Greater Tunis has experienced several notable episodes such as the ransacking of a bus just put into service on July 30, as well as repeated acts against the metro lines 5 and 6, including the breaking of windows and attempts at technical sabotage, etc.
The multiplication of these incidents raises the question of the capacity of authorities and operators to guarantee the safety of public transport. The solutions cannot be limited to repairing the damage and must extend to strengthening surveillance in the trains and at stations (video protection, human presence) and raising awareness among young people about the legal and human consequences of these acts.
