The former president of the Truth and Dignity Authority (IVD), Sihem Bensedrine, will be judged on November 17, she announced on Wednesday on her networks. The case, which dates back to the summer of 2024, concerns accusations of alleged manipulation of the final report of the body responsible for transitional justice in Tunisia.
Created in 2014, the IVD’s mission was to identify human rights violations committed since 1955 and to recommend mechanisms for reparation and reform. Its final report, published in the Official Journal in 2020, remains one of the most sensitive documents of the democratic transition.
The judicial investigation was opened after two former members of the IVD accused Sihem Bensedrine of having modified or deleted certain passages from the report before its official transmission. Arrested on August 1, 2024, she was placed in pre-trial detention before obtaining conditional release last February, accompanied by a travel ban.
Since then, the former president of the IVD has denied any falsification, affirming that the incriminated modifications were part of the final formatting of the document.
Sihem Bensedrine was placed in pre-trial detention on August 1, 2024 in connection with a case linked to accusations of forgery, falsification, abuse of power and undue advantages in relation to the final report of the IVD, in particular on the aspect of the Franco-Tunisian Bank.
She began a hunger strike in January 2025 to denounce what she considered to be judicial harassment. On February 19, 2025, the Tunisian justice system finally ordered his release.
