While the summer season is in full swing, the Minister of Tourism, Sofiene Tekaya, wanted to recall the strategic importance of internal tourism, stressing its role in the economic and social development of the country.

Speaking Wednesday June 25 during an information day devoted to the valuation of local tourism, he highlighted the growing weight of Tunisians in hotel activity.

According to data communicated by the Minister, around 2.5 million Tunisians stayed in tourist establishments in the country, generating nearly 6 million nights. This figure represents 38 % of all customers of the hotels, proof of the growing attachment of citizens to the national tourism product.

“These indicators bear witness to the growing interest of Tunisians for local holidays and the need to respond to them with complete, quality and accessible offers,” said Sofiene Tekaya.

To respond to this request, the ministry organized two reflection workshops bringing together professionals in the sector, experts and institutional. Objectives: Adapt the tourist offer to the needs of local tourists, guarantee a high level of quality of services and define new promotion prospects.

The Minister notably pleaded for better digitization of the sector, with the development of electronic platforms intended to simplify access to information, promote online reservations and offer preferential rates via approved travel agencies.

Another strong axis: the valuation of organized trips, presented as an essential lever to structure the offer and facilitate the access of Tunisian families to tourist stays. “These formulas make it possible to democratize access to the holidays, while stimulating regional economic circuits,” said the minister.
