The activity of the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG) has been completely stopped in the Mdhilla region since Sunday night, following a protest movement by agents after a fatal work accident.
According to union sources, all activities related to the extraction and washing of phosphate have been suspended in all CPG sites in Mdhilla, reports Mosaique fm. The agents decided to stop work to denounce what they consider to be a continued deterioration of safety and working conditions.
A fatal accident at the origin of the movement
The protest movement follows the death of a worker on Sunday at Laundromat No. 3 in Mdhilla. The victim died of serious injuries sustained during a work accident, according to information provided by the company’s basic union section.
Social anger and persistent worries
This incident has reignited the anger of agents, who are demanding urgent measures to improve safety on industrial sites and prevent new tragedies. No indication has, for the moment, been given regarding the resumption of activity or the opening of negotiations between management and worker representatives.
This new interruption comes on top of a series of recurring disruptions which continue to weigh heavily on national phosphate production.
