Visiting the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP), the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Tunisia, Rana Taha, reaffirmed Thursday the UN’s constant commitment to supporting Tunisia in its development projects and strengthening ongoing partnerships with national institutions.
Three axes for cooperation until 2030
According to the UN official, the UN action strategy in Tunisia for 2030 is based on three essential pillars:
- Invest in human capital, through programs relating to education, health and training.
- Promote an inclusive economy, generating opportunities for all, while consolidating social justice, an area in which “Tunisia is a pioneer,” she stressed.
- Facing climate change, by promoting a vision of sustainable development integrating awareness of environmental risks and the protection of society.
Rana Taha also insisted on the need for better coordination with the Tunisian Parliament, welcoming the progress recorded in terms of parliamentary action. She expressed the desire of UN agencies to mobilize more partners and donors to realize the projects undertaken.
The Assembly advocates the continuity of the partnership
For his part, the president of the ARP, Brahim Bouderbala, reaffirmed the importance that Tunisia attaches to its cooperation with UN institutions. He highlighted the country’s desire to pursue joint programs, particularly in the economic, social and environmental fields, and to anchor this cooperation in the principles of good governance and transparency.
Bouderbala also mentioned the cooperation already established between Parliament and several UN agencies, such as UNDP, UN Women and UN-Habitat, which he wishes to strengthen to support the development of parliamentary work and institutional modernization.
