The General Directorate of Prisons and Reeducation (DGPR) once again denied, this Tuesday, the information relayed on social networks and in certain media regarding the deterioration in the state of health of several prisoners allegedly on hunger strike. In a statement, the DGPR described this information as “fake news” and “deliberate manipulation” disseminated by certain parties.

The Administration announced that it had initiated legal proceedings against any person who knowingly disseminated false data on this subject, specifying that it would transmit all documented evidence at its disposal to the competent judicial authorities.

The DGPR also affirmed that the health situation of all detainees, including those declaring that they are on a hunger strike, is subject to regular medical monitoring, in accordance with the health protocols in force.

She also underlined that several prisoners who claimed to be on strike did not in fact stop eating, according to the findings and testimonies of prison staff and doctors in public hospitals.

Some even refused to undergo routine medical examinations, which confirmed the falsehood of their statements.
