In an unprecedented initiative, the National Council of the Order of Doctors in Tunisia has unveiled a code of conduct dedicated to doctors active on social networks.
Objective displayed: guarantee the dissemination of reliable and precise online medical information, in a context of the rise of disinformation in health.
Samir Chattou, treasurer of the order, underlined, in a declaration to Mosaique FM, that this approach does not aim to prohibit the use of social networks by health professionals. On the contrary, she seeks to organize and supervise these speeches so that they respect the legal framework and the doctor’s ethical duties.
“This code will help structure medical interventions on the internet, ensuring that the content disseminated comply with professional standards and the rules of medical ethics,” said Samir Chattou. According to him, this will not only preserve public health, but also to strengthen the quality of information accessible to the general public.
The code could also participate in the improvement of the services offered to patients, provided that doctors creating content undertake to respect the standards of the profession and the fundamental principles of medical practice.
The Order of Doctors reminds its members the importance of respecting Tunisian laws in matters of health and professional rules framing the medical profession, especially when they express themselves on digital platforms.
