During a joint plenary session in Bardo devoted to the 2026 budget, the Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh, assured that all economic indicators are published “with complete transparency, whether positive or negative”, announcing the upcoming finalization of a new legislative framework intended to govern statistical information in Tunisia.

“We are not trying to hide any indicator”

In response to questions from deputies of both chambers, the minister stressed that government policy is based on transparency and the full availability of economic data, adding that the national statistical system will be strengthened through a strategy led by the National Statistics Council.

A new Code to modernize statistical production

Samir Abdelhafidh revealed that the drafting of the new Statistical Information Code will be completed at the end of 2025, before a phase of expanded consultations in 2026.

This project aims in particular to:

  • modernize statistical governance
  • legally secure the collection and processing of data
  • strengthen access to administrative records
  • improve the quality of official indicators
  • align Tunisian standards with international standards

Improving economic indicators

The minister highlighted a gradual improvement in the national economic situation:

  • growth rate of 2.4 % in the third trimester
  • inflation reduced to 4.9%
  • 105 days of foreign currency import
  • improvement of the sovereign rating
  • decline in the current deficit

According to its projections, growth could reach 3.3% in 2026, driven by the recovery of agriculture, tourism and mechanical industries.

He specified that the ministry is working, according to a roadmap set by the Prime Ministry, to finalize the 2026-2030 development plan, which will only become official after adoption by the Assembly.
