During a plenary session in the Assembly of People’s Representatives, the Minister of Health Mustapha Ferjani presented in detail the wages and bonuses of young doctors in Tunisia, with a particular focus on interior regions and priority areas.
The Assembly of Representatives of the People held, Monday, June 2, 2025, a plenary session chaired by Mr. Ibrahim Bouderbala, in the presence of the Minister of Health, Mustapha Ferjani. The agenda included the presentation of fourteen oral questions addressed to the minister concerning the state of the health sector in several regions of the country.
During his intervention, the Minister drew up an inventory of the compensation of doctors in public health, in particular in the regions of the interior, in May 2025. He notably revealed the wages of young doctors.
According to the minister, a doctor receives a monthly bonus of 1,250 dinars, to which are added 200 dinars paid by the Ministry of Defense, a total of 1,450 dinars. The government plans to increase this remuneration to align it with that of resident doctors, whose monthly salary is currently 1,794.5 dinars for the first and second years, and 1,950 dinars for the third and fourth years.
Regarding childcare premiums, a resident receives 80 dinars per guard, while an intern (Bac+6) receives 48 dinars in addition to its monthly premium of 1,545 dinars. The premium of priority areas varies according to the regions: 350 dinars in the governorates of Béja, Zaghouan, Nabeul and Bizerte; 750 dinars in the other regions of the interior, with the exception of Ben Guerdane and Tataouine where it reaches 1,000 dinars.
These remuneration remains temporary, said the minister, indicating that after obtaining the diploma, a doctor receives 600 dinars per guard in addition to a monthly salary of 3,000 dinars in classified areas 3. He also pointed out that Tunisian premiums are higher than those of doctors in Algeria, Morocco or Egypt.
Finally, the Minister recognized a delay in payments, specifying however that all staff end up being paid, with a quarterly payment rate in hospitals.
Recall that this declaration comes on appeal funds launched by the organization of young doctors to a national strike from June 12.
