The General Federation of Secondary Education (FGES) denounced, Tuesday, the ban on Monday, September 8, 2025, to teachers the Gabès region on Monday, 2025 to gather peacefully within the enclosure of the regional education police station. The union accuses the Ministry of the Interior of having prevented this protest movement and speaks of “police attack”.
According to A press release from the FGESteachers wanted to hold a sit-in at the Gabès regional education police station to express their claims. The union claims that the police blocked this action and prohibits protesters from demonstrating inside the locals.
Violation of trade union
The Fges believes that the Ministry of the Interior is full responsibility for what it considers to be a violation of the union right. She also criticizes the Ministry of Education her “blocking of negotiations” and her “unilateral decisions” concerning changes and promotions.
The union reaffirms its attachment to the defense of teacher rights and union freedom, recalling that its movement is part of the legislation in force.
Standoff with the Ministry of Education
For several months, teachers have multiplied social movements to demand the application of agreements signed with the ministry, in particular on the management of changes and the improvement of working conditions. These tensions are part of a climate of tension between the union and the supervisory authority, against the backdrop of disputes.
Dozens of primary and secondary teachers gathered, on August 28, before the headquarters of the Ministry of Education in Tunis, at the call of the general federations of basic education and secondary education, to protest against the “blocking of negotiations” concerning their professional and material demands. A strike is even topical (October 7).
