The Ambassador of the European Union in Tunisia, Giuseppe Perrone, revealed that the Union, which granted Tunisia to finance around 1.8 billion euros since 2013, plans to continue this support during the period 2025-2027.

In an interview with the TAP agency, Berone presented these figures by notably evoking direct financial support to the state budget as well as the funding lines that the European Union will make available to Tunisia, in particular in a context of protectionist policies affecting the exporting sectors.

“The European Union remains the main funder of Tunisia since 2013 until today, with 1.1 billion euros allocated in the form of direct support for the state budget,” he said.

The European diplomat stressed that Brussels plans to intensify its support for Tunisia in the coming years, whether in the form of loans, donations or direct budget support. This support aims to support the Tunisian authorities in the implementation of the necessary reforms, while implementing innovative financial instruments to finance basic infrastructure projects defined by Tunisia.

Perrone has specified that these funding could also be part of the “Europe team” mechanism, in collaboration with the Member States, adding that there are many current initiatives, especially in the fields of water and investment.

Finally, he said that, thanks to the diversity of available instruments, the European Union is able to support Tunisia, its authorities and its civil society, both in the short term.
