After more than forty years of abandonment, the Belvédère municipal swimming pool officially reopens its doors from Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Located in the heart of the Belvédère park in Tunis, this historic infrastructure finally regains its public vocation.
Inaugurated in 1933, the swimming pool was abandoned since the 1980s. It symbolized the slow degradation of municipal equipment. Several cleaning campaigns had taken place, without ever leading to a complete restoration.
The renovation site was launched on February 16, 2024 by the Tunisian army, with the financial support of the BIAT (Arab International Bank of Tunisia), which ensured all of the funding, estimated at 18 million dinars.
The swimming pool is 33 meters long and 20 meters wide, with a depth ranging from 0.9 to 2.1 meters. It can accommodate up to 350 swimmers per session.
The changing rooms were completely redone, with separate spaces for men, women and people with reduced mobility. Modern showers, water -made in water, have also been installed.
According to Khaled Ben Yedder, Director of Culture, Youth, Sport and Social Affairs at the town hall of Tunis, four sessions will be organized every day, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the rate of 4 dinars per session. The tickets are sold directly on site.
Initially announced at 12 dinars last October, the drop in the price aims to promote access to the greatest number.
The site will also be able to accommodate sporting, cultural events and even weddings. A catering area is planned.
The reopening was symbolically inaugurated by President Kaïs Saïed in October 2024, stressing the importance of preserving the collective heritage.
