This Monday, July 21, 2025, the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP) adopted Bill No. 75-2024. This text concerns the closing of the state budget for exercise 2021. It collected 64 favorable votes, 8 against and 7 abstentions.
The vote was to take place earlier. But the Minister of Finance, Michket Slama Khaldi, asked to postpone him to July 8. She explained this period by political and economic upheavals since 2021. The Pandemic of COVID-19 also disrupted the usual budget closing procedure.
The minister assured that her ministry is working to accelerate these procedures. She also wants to improve accounting standards. In particular, it plans to gradually adopt the accounting in double part. This reform must help make up for delays and better manage public finances.
This vote represents an important step to regularize state accounts. But some parliamentarians remain reserved in the face of this exceptional period between the fiscal year and its approval.
