Friday, April 4, 2025, the health and education commissions of the Assembly of People’s Representatives adopted a bill ratifying an agreement between Tunisia and the Arab Council for Health Specialties (CESA).

This agreement provides for the opening of a coordination office in Tunis, aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in the training of health professionals.

The CESA, an organization attached to the Arab States League, aims to improve the skills of doctors and other health professionals in Arab countries, by providing them with training in accordance with international standards. The opening of this office in Tunis will facilitate the exchange of expertise and good practices between the Maghreb and Mashreq countries, thus contributing to better integration of health systems in the Arab region.

Representatives of the Ministry of Health stressed that this initiative will enhance medical training in Tunisia and the Arab region. The coordination office will also be a way to reduce the leak of medical skills, by offering Tunisian and Arab professionals for professional development opportunities in an international setting. In addition, the establishment of this office will strengthen the position of Tunisia within CESA, in particular by facilitating cooperation with other regional education systems.

However, concerns were expressed by certain deputies concerning the privileges and immunities granted to the office and its staff. In response, representatives of the ministry said that these advantages would meet the usual diplomatic standards and that the office staff will have to comply with Tunisian laws.

After an in -depth discussion, the commissions unanimously approved the bill.
