Strike in public transport: the federation calls SNTRI agents to take over
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

After a general strike of three days in the land transport of travelers, the General Federation of Transport (UGTT) called this Friday, August 1, the agents of the SNTRI to resume work from 8 p.m. The union union nevertheless denounces the contempt of the government and ensures that the mobilization continues.

The General Federation of Transport, affiliated with the Tunisian Labor Union (UGTT), announced this Friday the end of the general strike observed from July 30 to August 1 in the land transport sector.

Resumption at 8:00 p.m.

In a statement published on August 1, it called all the agents of the National Interurban Transport Company (SNTRI) to take over their posts from 8 p.m. and to ensure nighttime services throughout the territory.

This strike had been launched following the failure of negotiations between the Federation and the Ministry of Transport on the demands of the sector. The movement, widely followed according to the unions, paralyzed several interurban and urban lines across the country.

A marginalized sector

In its press release, the federation castigated the “contempt” of the government and its “policy of fleeing forward”, accusing it of marginalizing a vital public sector for social cohesion. She denounced a “suffocated” public transport, victim of a “systemic disinterest”, and claimed to have “tried everything” to avoid climbing: dialogue, concessions and patience.

However, despite the accusing tone, the federation ensures that its hand remains tense for “a serious and responsible dialogue”, while holding the authorities for “entirely responsible for the failure of the negotiations”.

For several months, unions have denounced the deterioration of working conditions, wage delays in certain transport companies, and the absence of clarity on promised reforms.
