Since 2021, French companies installed in Tunisia have consolidated their economic presence, now a stable level of employment between 150,000 and 160,000 positions. This stabilization follows a period of strong growth between 2016 and 2021, when the workforce had increased by almost 30 %. Today it reflects a strengthening of the industrial fabric, more than a rapid expansion, in an economic and political context marked by uncertainty.
The recent inauguration of the extension of CMR Tunisia in Fouchana (Ben Arous), specialized in the manufacture of electric cables for motors and boat machines, perfectly illustrates this dynamic. The new unit aims to increase production capacity and strengthen exports, especially to France and the United States, while consolidating local jobs. Anne Guéguen, French ambassador to Tunisia, praised this investment as “a project creating jobs and bearers of industrial upright”.
In total, France remains the first foreign investor in Tunisia, with nearly 1,500 companies located and a key role in the modernization of the industrial sector. According to the ambassador, these investments made it possible to create more than 2,000 jobs during the past year, despite a complex national context.
