Several witnesses and passengers said that a drone would have targeted the ship on Monday, September 8, Familythe largest building in the “Al-Soumoud” flotilla, moored at the entrance to the port of Sidi Bou Saïd. According to their stories, a small device would have flew over the ship before dropping an incendiary load which caused flames at the front of the boat.

THE Port surveillance cameras captured the moment when the family has been struck, which feeds the hypothesis of a drone attack, widely relayed on social networks. These declarations, relayed in particular by the activist WAEL NAOUARa member of the coordination of joint work for Palestine, reinforced the idea of targeted action against the international flotilla on the way to Gaza.

However, the official version diverges. On Mosaic FMthe spokesperson for the National Guard, the general Houssem Eddine Jebablifirmly denied the presence of a drone near the port. According to him, the first observations report “a limited fire in a rescue jacket located at the front of the ship”, quickly controlled by the authorities.

“We have not detected any drone activity in Sidi Bou Saïd. The first observations indicate a start of fire located in a rescue jacket at the front of the ship. The surveys continue. »»

The incident is thus the subject of contradictory versions : On the one hand, testimonies evoking an air attack; On the other, an official account favoring accidental thesis.

In the wake of the event, and in response to the call launched by the “Al-Soumoud” initiative, hundreds of citizens have gathered At the port of Sidi Bou Saïd to express their support for crews and reaffirm their membership in the Palestinian cause.

The flotilla, made up of around twenty ships from 44 countries, had stopped in Sidi Bou Saïd on September 7. His departure to Gaza, via the Mediterranean, is scheduled for September 10, with the aim of breaking the Israeli blockade and sending symbolic humanitarian aid.
