The National Educational Center and the Tunisian Social Solidarity Union signed this Monday, August 25, a partnership to facilitate access to children from disadvantaged families to school books. This initiative concerns all levels of education and provides for a distribution adapted to local needs.

A partnership to facilitate access to textbooks

Within the framework of this agreement, the Center will provide textbooks according to the identified needs, and the Union will be responsible for their distribution to students of low -income families, including those not registered in the national register of vulnerable families, according to 21 Jan 2025 the president of the Tunisian Social Solidarity Union, Naïma Jlassi, in a declaration to TAP.

The initiative concerns all levels of education, primary, preparatory and secondary, and the textbooks will be distributed to the different regions according to local needs. According to Jlassi, this partnership contributes to strengthening national solidarity. It is important to note that this agreement differs from the Social AMEN program, which provides regular monetary transfers to low -income families, free or subsidized health care, as well as economic empowerment opportunities.

After the presidential visit, school books accessible to all

It should be recalled that President Kaïs Saïed had visited the national educational center on Thursday, August 21, recalling the importance of fair access to textbooks for all students and insisting on the universal nature of the right to education. He announced the free distribution of a batch of manuals to modest families and subsidized notebooks, saying that “all students must be equal to school supplies”. Saïed also denounced quality deviations between imported notebooks and locally produced notebooks, saying that Tunisia is able to manufacture better school tools.

After this measure in favor of students from modest families, a question remains: can we hope that other categories faced with difficulties, such as unemployed doctors, are also soon benefit from concrete decisions?
