Involved in a case of financial and administrative corruption, businessman Samir Jiab appeared before Tunisian justice. The Specialized Chamber agreed to postpone the hearing in order to allow the initiation of a conciliation procedure.
Businessman Samir Jiab was presented the day before yesterday before the Sixth Criminal Chamber specializing in financial corruption cases, reporting to the Court of First Instance of Tunis. This appearance takes place in the context of a legal case concerning suspicions of financial and administrative corruption.
Request for postponement to initiate conciliation
During the hearing, the defense lawyer requested the postponement of the examination of the case in order to allow his client to initiate conciliation procedures provided for by the legislation in force. The court granted this request and decided to refer the case to the hearing on January 15, pending the outcome of this procedure.
Heavy accusations investigated by the financial center
The case dates back to an investigation carried out by the Economic and Financial Judicial Unit, which had issued a committal warrant against Samir Jiab. Active in the tourism and real estate sectors, the businessman was referred to the Indictment Chamber on several charges.
The prosecutions relate in particular to alleged acts of money laundering, exploitation of a public official in order to obtain an undue advantage for himself or others, endangering the administration as well as violation of the regulations governing these operations, with the aim of illicit enrichment.
The evolution of the procedure will now depend on the results of the conciliation initiated, the conclusions of which the court will examine at the next hearing.
