A protest march was organized in the morning of this Thursday, May 1, 2025 in Tunis against the arrest of the lawyer and former judge Ahmed Souab.
The demonstrators gathered before the headquarters of the administrative court in the capital, before joining Mohamed Ali square (opposite the headquarters of the Tunisian Labor Union – UGTT), then walking towards Avenue Habib Bourguiba.
In addition to Ahmed Souab family members, the demonstration has seen the participation of many political figures from various horizons, human rights defenders, civil society activists as well as trade unionists. The protesters have brandished several slogans denouncing the arrest of Souab.
In a statement to Mosaic FM, Monji Souab, brother of Ahmed, explained that the choice to start the march before the administrative court was not trivial. He said that this mobilization responded to an appeal launched by his brother from Mornaguia’s prison, in which he insisted that the march left for the siege of the UGTT, as Imi of the union organization and former legal adviser within it.
