Faced with persistent congestion at the port of Radès and recurring complaints from economic operators, the Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, went there to accelerate the implementation of measures intended to streamline the processing of goods and improve the overall performance of the port platform.
The Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, made an unannounced visit to the commercial port of Radès on Monday, December 22, 2025, late in the afternoon, in order to assess the progress of the recommendations recently adopted by his department. The stated objective is to restore fluidity to port operations and optimize the management of areas within the port domain, according to a press release from the ministry.
At the heart of this visit, the problem of goods and long-stay containers, considered one of the main factors of congestion at the port. The minister recommended summoning the owners of the containers concerned in order to remove them as quickly as possible. He also insisted on the need to transfer containers grouped inside the port to dedicated spaces, in coordination with customs services, to finalize pending procedures.
Rachid Amri also called for accelerating the launch of the call for tenders relating to the development work in the area adjoining exit gates 1 and 2, with a view to its exploitation in port operations. This measure is part of a logic of functional extension of available spaces, while the port suffers from chronic saturation.
Redevelopment work on entrance doors
The minister also took note of the progress of the redevelopment work on entrance gates 3 and 4, the return to service of which is scheduled for Saturday, December 27. A step considered strategic to improve the circulation of goods flows and reduce waiting times.
Welcoming the efforts made to strengthen loading and unloading equipment and improve their level of availability, the Minister of Transport called for an intensification of coordination between the various stakeholders. He notably urged the Radès port group commission to overcome operational obstacles in order to ensure sustainable improvement in the port’s performance indicators.
This visit comes in a context of strong pressure on the port of Radès, the main lung of Tunisian foreign trade, regularly singled out for its delays, its high costs and their direct impact on the competitiveness of Tunisian companies.
The minister was accompanied by several executives from the ministry, the president and general manager of the Tunisian stevedoring and handling company, the director of the commercial port of Radès as well as representatives of the various stakeholders operating on the site.
