The Gafsa Phosphates Company (CPG) produced 825,000 tonnes of commercial phosphate during the first quarter of the year 2025.
This figure, although increasing 18% compared to the same period in 2024 (789,000 tonnes), remains below the forecasts established by the Central Directorate of Production, which were tabling on a million tonnes. This represents a decline of around 17.5% compared to the initial objectives.
This annual increase is explained in particular by the entry into service of new equipment and vehicles in several careers of the company in the mining basin. Added to this is the effective restart of the activity in the Redeyef region, which has found a dynamic of extraction, washing and loading phosphate after years of partial paralysis.
Confident in a lasting recovery, managers of central production are aimed at an ambitious objective of 5 million tonnes by the end of the year. To achieve this, the CPG is counting on an investment program of around 233 million dinars.
This funding will allow the acquisition of new equipment, strengthening the transport capacity between extraction sites and laundromats spread over the five mining regions, as well as the conclusion of new loan agreements for the launch of structuring projects intended to improve the overall profitability of the company.
