The Tunis Court of Appeal confirmed, Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the conviction of Noureddine Bhiri to ten years in prison. The leader of Ennahdha is prosecuted for a Facebook post deemed threatening for state security.
The Tunis Court of Appeal confirmed, on Tuesday, the sentence of ten years in prison pronounced at first instance against Noureddine Bhiri, figurehead of the Ennahdha party and former Minister of Justice. The politician is continued as part of a case linked to a controversial publication on social networks, awarded to his Facebook account.
According to Habib Torkhani, spokesperson for the Court of Appeal, Bhiri is found guilty of attack aimed at changing the form of the state, and the incentive of citizens to arm against each other. Serious accusations which are part of article 72 of the penal code, which provides heavy sentences for damage to state security.
The case dates back to January 2023, a period marked by demonstrations led by the National Salvation Front, an opposition coalition to which Ennahdha is affiliated. It was following these events that a publication attributed to Noureddine Bhiri surfaced on social networks, arousing the attention of the judicial authorities. The content, deemed incentive and subversive, led to the opening of an investigation and then to the arrest of the former minister.
However, Bhiri’s defense categorically rejects the authenticity of the post, qualifying the publication of “falsified, non -existent and not found on any of the personal accounts” of their customer. Lawyers denounce a matter mounted from scratch and claim the cancellation of the procedure.
Noureddine Bhiri has been detained since February 2023 as part of the so -called conspiracy against state security, a file in which several opposition figures have been arrested. In addition, he is also the subject of prosecution in other current cases, including that relating to the death of Jilani Dabboussi.
