A large tax control operation has recently been carried out in several tourist cafes and restaurants located in the Lac 2 area in Tunis.
This intervention is part of the daily activities of the Research and Fighting Tax Evasion Brigade under the Ministry of Finance, said Aymen Hamdaoui, director of research and tax inquiries.
What distinguishes this operation, according to him, is its simultaneous and coordinated character. In fact, around 30 tax investigators and 8 data analysts were mobilized. Eight mixed teams were thus dispatched to the banks of Lac 2, with a careful selection of targeted establishments, based on prior estimates of their winnings.
During this operation, the agents entered the accounting documents, invoices from the cash registers, as well as other supporting documents. The objective was clear: compare the real figures for commercial transactions to tax declarations made to the administration.
The first findings are edifying: very large disparities have been noted between real revenues and the amounts declared to the taxman, with differences reaching several tens of billions of millimes.
Speaking on Mosaic FM, Aymen Hamdaoui also revealed that by the end of 2025, a new system for recording cash payments will be officially deployed and generalized throughout Tunisia.
