MPs alert for the management of meat before Eid

The deputies alert to the faults of the Société des Viandes before Eid: debts, opaque management, health risks and precarious personnel.

As Eid El-Iid approaches, a parliamentary delegation made a critical visit to the company Ellouhoum. The deputies of the Industry, Commerce and Energy Commission wanted to assess logistical and health preparations to meet the strong seasonal demand.

Received by the deputy director of the company, they attended a presentation on the strategic role of the company: regulation of the red meat market and the management of slaughterhouses, reports the national radio. The latter spoke of the rental of commercial spaces and cold rooms to improve income.

However, parliamentarians have discovered many flaws. The company is crumbling under the debts contracted with the BNA since the failure of the import of sheep in 2012. In parallel, informal actors disrupt the distribution chain.

The visit highlighted the illegal uses of the farming premises, used as points of sale, as well as a wastewater treatment plant since 2017, causing stagnation of wastewater and health risks for local residents.

Employees have also expressed their frustration in the face of the precariousness of their contracts and administrative instability.

The deputies pleaded for in-depth restructuring, combining tax aid (already provided in the LF 2024-2025), modernization of slaughterhouses and recovery of waste. An intersectoral reform including animal supply and dairy production is recommended.
