The Ministry of Religious Affairs continues to expand its missions and human resources, with 20,784 religious executives responsible for supervising 6,737 religious buildings across the country.

In the draft budget for 2026, the mission sees its appropriations increase by 3.49%, from 195.580 to 202.400 million dinars, to strengthen religious supervision and modernize religious infrastructure.

Massive and structured religious supervision

The Ministry of Religious Affairs provides management and supervision of 1,477 mosques and 5,260 major mosques, while planning to classify 259 new major mosques next year.

Added to this are 76 officially registered zaouïas, as well as places of worship belonging to other faiths: 13 Jewish synagogues and 20 Christian churches, supervised in cooperation with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

This extensive network underlines the central role of the ministry in the religious, cultural and social life of the country, with missions that range from the supervision of religious executives to the construction, restoration, maintenance and lighting of places of worship.

Targeted spending and clear priorities

The 2026 draft budget devotes 161 million dinars to remuneration expenses, 24.25 million to management expenses, 14.85 million to public interventions, 2.3 million to investments.

The ministry’s priorities include the facilitation of religious rites, the continuing training of mosque executives, the intensification of awareness-raising activities, as well as support for scientific research and studies in Islamic sciences.
