A high-ranking Tunisian military delegation, led by the Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Mohamed El Ghoul, is making an official visit to Algiers. This mission is part of the strengthening of bilateral military cooperation, on the occasion of the holding of the 19th session of the Algerian-Tunisian joint commission responsible for monitoring and evaluating military cooperation between the two countries.
Interviews at the headquarters of the Algerian Ministry of Defense
General Mohamed El Ghoul, accompanied by a senior Tunisian military officer, met on Wednesday with the Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of National Defense, Major General Mohamed Salah Ben Bicha, at the ministry’s headquarters in Algiers, reports the Facebook page of the Algerian Ministry of Defense.
This meeting comes as Algeria hosts, from December 21 to 25, the work of the 19th session of the bilateral joint commission dedicated to the implementation and monitoring of military cooperation programs.
The bilateral discussions focused on several areas of common interest. The two parties welcomed the “distinguished and qualitative” level reached by the cooperative relations between the Tunisian and Algerian armed forces, highlighting a convergence of views on regional security issues and the need to maintain close coordination.
Border security and the fight against cross-border threats
The Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of Defense highlighted the positive results recorded within the framework of military cooperation between the two countries.
He particularly highlighted the high level of continued coordination in securing common borders, aimed at confronting threats linked to terrorism, cross-border organized crime, irregular immigration, drug trafficking and different forms of smuggling.
